LA MORITA MEXICO YOUTH MISSION HOMEBUILDING TRIP TO TIJUANA
Due to the ongoing pandemic we made the difficult decision to cancel our Easter 2020 and 2021 homebuilding trips. However we felt an obligation to build homes for the three families we selected in January before the pandemic shut down travel.  So our local construction partner, Francisco and his crew will build the homes that we can’t. With the fundraising we had already completed we will be able to pay the majority of these costs.
Sadly, this is the first time in the past 28 years we have had to cancel the trip even though the needs in La Morita continue to grow.  Father Jesse, the Oblate missionary who has been our contact for the past several years asked us to help finance the construction of classrooms at their church / school site, the “Dome”.  We joined with other Bay Area groups to fundraise to build the classrooms.  We are pleased to report we met our portion of the fundraising goal of $3,500 which will be used to buy building materials for the classrooms.
We are now setting our sights on raising funds to have additional homes built on our behalf next year or fund other construction projects in La Morita in 2021.  Won’t you help us?
Here are simple ways to donate:

What is this trip all about?

La Morita Mexico Youth Mission is fortunate that God has granted us the means and the opportunity to positively impact three families in La Morita, Mexico every year!  The good we do has a ripple effect, like a stone being thrown in a pond.  This goes far beyond the families we serve; the teenagers who participate in this act of selfless service are impacted profoundly and go on to become leaders within their communities.

Since 1992, Donna and Jack Walton have led groups of teenagers and adults from Concord, CA area on a mission to Mexico to build houses for those in need over Easter Week.  Over the years, people of countless faiths have made this journey with us to celebrate and participate in Our Lord's Resurrection, each by giving a little of ourselves to help others.

Not everyone is able to travel to Mexico, but our hearts are filled with gratitude for the many ways they are able to help. Gifts of time, money and material have been granted so freely and with such loving generosity, right here in the US. The teens write letters to friends and relatives asking for support, sell tickets to a benefit dinner and hand out "uncommon stock" offers after masses in order to raise a total of $45,000 to build three houses.

Thank you to all the people who have enabled us to go on this mission each year.  We pray for God's bounty to bless all the families we have been privileged to help, because in helping them we too have been blessed.
